Web Wanderings #6
Rediscover the joy of online exploration! Web Wandering shares a hand-picked selection of unique and captivating websites you won't find anywhere else.
It’s been a looong month so far. Yeah, we are only half way through it. But I’m quite tired. Maybe because I spent a lot of time going through thousands of websites for the split of the Technology category on Cloudhiker.
Anyway, here are a few new websites I think are shiny gems of the Cloudhiker collection.
This edition is also available on Cloudhiker as a Collection so you can find, like and collect the sites there: Web Wanderings #6
whencanireusethiscalendar?
https://whencanireusethiscalendar.com
Who still uses physical calendars? I mean really, we all have them in our smartphones where we can create, edit and share events without hassle. Yet, calendars are still popular - yet they produce a ton of waste every year, because, well… they are only valid for one year - aren’t they?!
This website shows you how long you may keep your calendar until it’s valid again. For example, the 2025 calendar is valid again in 2031.
By the way, I hate the current western calendar system and would love to use the International Fixed Calendar, if I could.

This is just a really neat avatar creator. I love the style!
Complexity Explained
https://complexityexplained.github.io
Maybe you had a similar experience in school: your teacher explains math (or whatever seems difficult) and you just don’t understand anything. Thankfully, there are countless websites explaining difficult topics in an easy-to-understand language. And this website explains complexity.
Develop for Good
https://www.developforgood.org
Develop for Good is one of those fantastic initiatives that push forward society. The idea: bring Nonprofits and developers or designers together. I mean yeah, nonprofits are like always short on money and getting help from professionals for free helps a lot.
London Pigeons
http://www.londonpigeons.co.uk
Let’s take a look into the weird corner of the internet. Somebody on London seems to be obsessed with pigeons and then went on to create this funny, but also really bizarre collection of studies around London pigeons. 😳
Do you like all those websites and want to explore more? Cloudhiker has 26,000+ sites all waiting for you to be discovered! All for free, no account needed.
Telehack
I recently stumbled across Telehack, and it’s honestly one of the coolest nerdy things I’ve seen in a while. It’s like stepping into a time machine back to the 80s and early 90s internet. You explore a huge network of simulated vintage computers, dig through old files, and even chat with others who are doing the same. It’s weirdly fun, super nostalgic, and kind of educational too. If you’re into retro tech or just want to experience what the internet felt like before the web, this is totally worth sharing.
Virtual Trebuchet
Have you ever wondered how a trebuchet need to be constructed to be able to throw a cow? 🤔 It seems that it’s more difficult than I thought. Let me know if you managed to throw a cow more than 10 meters into the wrong direction.
The Black Vault
Honestly, do you trust the government? Watergate, Big Tobacco, Enron, Manning, Snowden. All have one in common: leaked documents. The Black Vault collects all sorts of documents for various topics. Maybe you find something interesting?!
Klein Bottle
Klein Bottle is an internet relic and a business that is going strong even after all those years. I actually know this site back from the Stumbleupon days, and was excited when I found it again for Cloudhiker. Now sure who needs such a bottle, but it’s interesting nevertheless.
How Many Plants
Let’s end with something really helpful for your home and garden: a plant guide. I don’t know why it’s such a common meme that rarely anybody can take care of plants and many die a horrible death (the plants, not the owners). This guide might help you live a happy life, together with some non-plastic plants in your home. Trust me, it’s worth it.
