Web Wanderings #3
Rediscover the joy of online exploration! Web Wandering shares a hand-picked selection of unique and captivating websites you won't find anywhere else.
It’s been a long Easter weekend for me. Actually, it’s also been a relaxing weekend. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I am not sure if others have some additional days off. Here in Germany it’s always a longer weekend because Friday and Monday are national holidays. 4 days off! 🤩
But in fact, I did not use those days to do a lot of stuff. Sometimes it’s important to take some time off from everything. After all the coding I did during the past months, I decided not to work on my projects. That’s why this edition came a little later than I expected.
So, here we are, with a fresh set of featured websites, hand-picked from the huge curated collection maintained on Cloudhiker.
This edition is also available on Cloudhiker as a Collection so you can find, like and collect the sites there: Web Wanderings #3
Seeing Theory
https://seeing-theory.brown.edu
Let’s start with science. Statistics and probability, to be precise. If you ever start into a class about that, go to this website and you will get a perfect overview to get you started with the topic. Of course there are many sites about that on the web, but the people at Brown managed to reduce everything you need to the essentials. The interactive lessons make learning more fun! 🤓
2020
Remember 2020? One of the worst years in the past decades. Really, Covid alone was the worst time of my life so far, despite being lucky enough to not become sick. Yet, there’s more to the year and this wonderful web game lets you explore the year and all the miserable events of it. Starting with the Australian wildlife fires, to Covid up to the following stock market crash.
By the way, Cloudhiker was created in this year. 👀 Well, at least I started working on it. It went live some months later, in May 2021.
Let's Build a Confetti Cannon
We continue with science. This time it’s physics. Varun built a confetti canon for the web, and in this tutorial he explains how the canon works. He goes into the physics behind it and how to put everything into code. The examples on his confetti collection also let you play with different versions.
How Bad Is Your Streaming Music?
https://pudding.cool/2021/10/judge-my-music
You probably think you have a good music taste. Of course you are only listening to the good music. Until an AI trained on really good music has a look at your Spotify or Apple Music history.
Your spotify was face-tattoo-i-know-the-dj-jock-jams bad.
Huh. Ok.
You're too trendy for your own good. You know there's good music from before 2019, right?
😳
Do you like all those websites and want to explore more? Cloudhiker has 25,000+ sites all waiting for you to be discovered! All for free, no account needed.
py.CheckIO
After that depressing journey through your music streaming history, let’s dive into coding again. This time we’re not building a confetti canon, but dive into Python. It’s the most popular programming language right now, so learning the basics can’t hurt right? Check IO lets you improve your coding skills by solving coding challenges and exercises online with your friends, in a fun way.
Supercook
This is fo all those who either dislike cooking after specific recipes, or dislike shopping groceries. Throw everything you have in your fridge or cupboards into Supercook, and you’ll get recipes ready to cook with what you have at home.
I have tried that when I first found the site during the Corona pandemic, and ended up with a nice vegetable pasta. But what about you? Do you like cooking and experimenting with ingredients?
I feel like Crap
For whatever reason, we stay with the theme of being home alone during the Corona pandemic. During all this time where people were anxious to become seriously sick, had to stay at home and were lonely, depression went up quite significantly. According to statistics, we saw increases up to 25%.
This website helps you explore why you might feel bad today. And of course there are various factors resulting in feeling bad. And sometimes, those factors may not be obvious. So, getting a little help by answering some questions can help you feel better.
The impossible Checkbox

Let us end with something funny. Try to check Teddy’s checkbox. 🐻
