Web Wanderings #22
Rediscover the joy of online exploration! Web Wandering shares a hand-picked selection of the most awesome websites you won't find anywhere else.
I’ve been pretty tired lately. Mostly due to my job and many stressful situations around it. Our team has a lot of stuff to do and can’t keep up with all the tasks we get, not even proper maintenance tasks and improvements are done properly. Sadly, there’s no budget for hiring, which makes the whole situation worse. “But now there’s AI, it solves all of our problems!“ Yeah. Sure.
So, after a week of vacation at the Baltic Sea I feel a bit refreshed. I love it there, and even after some hiccups with the car, I had some wonderful days there. It’s also the first time there that I actively tried to communicate in Polish. Witajcie, polscy przyjaciele! 🇵🇱
It has become the go-to destination for short vacations, because the Polish side of the baltic sea, although I love Usedom on the German side, is a little cheaper for accommodation, food and activities. Also, I am impressed by the infrastructure, Poland really pushes a lot of money into the sea side to support tourism. I enjoy being there.

HeadsUpGuys
I started this Web Wanderings edition with some words about stress and the heavy burden of work. Burnout is just one issue many people face and I still feel like too few talk about it - while talking would definitely help. And the very next step is a depression, because stress and burnout inevitably impact your private life too. Therefore I want to spread the word: take care about yourself, talk with your close ones about your feelings and get help if needed. 🌿
Defrag the Game
Ahhhhhhh….. sweet, sweet nostalgia. I got my first computer at like ten. At first I just played the usual educational games like Addy. But I quickly started to like tinkering with my computer and take care of it. Of course one of the important things you have to do is to defrag the hard drive. It’s basically the same like cleaning up your room so that all the clothes and whatever you have is not laying around in pure chaos, but instead is neatly stuffed into the right place. This will speed up finding something if you ever search for something specific. And that’s exactly what old hard drives needed to do regularly.
Activist Handbook
I must admit that I rarely take action and stand up for my rights and opinion aside from supporting the organizations I trust and signing petitions. But if I ever wanted to take an active stance for me and my principles, this website would be my go-to resource for getting started. ✊
Human or not?
AI is currently taking over the world. And to be honest, I don’t like it. The ways AI is used are currently the wrong ones.
Sadly, identifying AI content becomes more important as a skill. human or not features a test where you try to find out if the partner you are talking to is indeed a human or an AI.
Hiro Report
The Hiro Report is a pretty cool newsletter-style magazine. Similar to Web Wanderings, but not just for websites. It’s all about the most interesting websites, products, games, or whatever interesting stuff you can find.
Do you like all those websites and want to explore more? Cloudhiker has 31,000+ sites all waiting for you to be discovered! Totally free, no account needed.
Stay in the Gap
https://everythingchanges.us/blog/stay-in-the-gap/
From time to time I read articles and essays about psychology. Actually, if I never had entered the computer business, I would probably have studied psychology instead. It’s such an interesting topic. Recently finished two books about the Adler psychology.
This piece is about the gap between what you are able to achieve and work on and what your taste dictates. Without going too much into the details, I recommend reading through this short article.
I want a better Catastrophe
https://flowchart.bettercatastrophe.com
I think I shared a website about climate change before. And this time, it’s again about global warming and how it affects us - or not. Just click through all the options, some of them are even funny, but most should make you think.
Postcard Past / Present Photo
What a wonderful project! I have seen a few post on Instagram and Twitter where people visit places where they have old photos from and put it just in the right angle so that the old photo and the present align.
On this website, exactly those are collected and filled with a lot more information. Lovely!
Stop Killing Games

If you live in the EU, you probably heard about this. not sure how present the topic is in US media or other parts of the world. What is this about?
An increasing number of games are sold as goods, but designed to be completely unplayable for everyone as soon as support ends. This campaign urges the politics to enforce the availability of games with appropriate laws. Because if publishers decides to shut down the servers of an old game and even single player games become unavailable because of this, consumers are screwed. This practice should not be legal.
Unfortunately, just recently, the official response of the European Union is that such a policy cannot be enforced by law. What a damn joke.
Your Age on other Planets
Planets do not have the same years as earth. They move in different speeds around the sun, at different distances. This means years pass differently on each planet. While this is of course kind of a joke science, it’s fun that I would only be 3 months old on Pluto. 🤣
