Web Wanderings #17
Rediscover the joy of online exploration! Web Wandering shares a hand-picked selection of the most awesome websites you won't find anywhere else.
Whew. It’s been a few long weeks. Not only did I do a lot for work, I also spent way more time working on my projects - including Cloudhiker. In those weeks, I put together some new features and improvements. Aside from a pretty long list of stuff for the moderation backend and the new login for Microsoft accounts, I launched the Lifetime plan. 💪 The Lifetime offer was requested a few times already, and making it available will further boost the sustainability of Cloudhiker.
Next stop: user avatars. Stay tuned.
While waiting for custom avatars, why not scroll through this new edition of Web Wanderings? 😜
This edition is also available on Cloudhiker as a Collection so you can find, like and collect the sites of this Edition: Web Wanderings #17
GameDate
Let’s start with one of those websites that live in a very special corner of the internet, where people from places all over the world gather to do something precious: finding buddies to play your favorite video game.
People schedule gaming sessions on GameDate, for old but loved games. To celebrate nostalgia and great titles. 😍
I swear as soon as I have a bit more time and worked through my gaming backlog, I’ll have a look for a session.
Something is Going on with Colorectal Cancer
As a guy in the 30s, I notice how health becomes an increasingly important topic. While I didn’t really cared a decade ago, I now go to regular check ups. And you should too. Because most severe or even lethal deceases can be cured when detected early. One of those is colorectal cancer.
This essay explores the current statistics for this type of cancer, and why it might be on the rise for younger adults. A deep dive into an important health topic, with interesting insights for everybody.
Please, use check ups and see doctors on a regular base. #stayhealthy
Proto-Indo-European
https://indo-european-explorer.com
Maybe you did know already that most languages originating from Europe, such as English, French or German, have their roots in Latin. Which makes sense if you take a look at the history of Europe and how cultures and countries evolved in the past centuries. But, did you know that this goes even further? Like so far, that half of all people living today share their same ancestors - language-wise.
Isometric NYC
https://cannoneyed.com/isometric-nyc
I would like to visit New York City one time. It’s one of those mega cities with their very own magic, attracting people from all over the world. And while Berlin, Germany, where I live, is not a small city either, it can’t compare with Big Apple. And so it comes, that one can find countless projects just about this very city on the internet. And Isometric NYC is one of them. Scroll through the city like it’s a video game map, or a comic version of Google Maps. Incredible work!
Web Cassette
https://webcassette.klevgrand.se
Do you remember cassettes? Those plastic cartridges carrying thin black tape? That, when inserted into a weird, clunky machine and pressing the button looking like the Play symbol from Spotify, then actually played music?
Weird, huh?
Ancient technology. But we had them, 30 years ago. And if you were the blessed kid with a rich dad, you actually had a good cassette deck. If not, you might have ended up with something cheap. And that mostly meant playing music with lower quality. And this website lets you experience exactly that. Upload your favorite song ripped from YouTube, turn the knobs all the way down an hear, what most of us had to endure during our childhood or adultness. 🫠
Do you like all those websites and want to explore more? Cloudhiker has 29,000+ sites all waiting for you to be discovered! Totally free, no account needed.
Wild Bread
I… can’t… I mean… what?!
Discovering this website the first time left me speechless for a second. I’ve seen a lot of weird projects, but this one is indeed one of the special ones. I mean it’s nothing special per se, but… come on… pictures of bread in the wild?! 🤣
Curious Cones
You know what? Let’s stay with weird things a little longer. We have now looked at pieces of bread in the park, on the platform, aside entrances or in the mountains. We traveled the world to see a few pieces of solid flour. But there are other things to look at. Goats, for example. Or traffic cones.
(Weird, there’s no traffic cone emoji?!)
Overgrown
Enough of the funny stuff! Stay serious dammit! We are not here for enjoyment.
Actually, yes. We are. ☺️
Here’s something to enjoy. Have fun while reading this gorgeous visual novel. Props to Laya for this marvelous experience!
Handwriting Personality Test
https://r74n.com/mini/handwriting
Handwriting. I have a bad style. I mean not like doctor-level bad, but it just doesn’t look pretty or stylish. I know people who have an even worse “Sauklaue“ (German slang for bad handwriting), but also who write like they were hired to write invitation cards for a wedding. Anyway, let’s find out what type of handwriting you have!
Wanna know mine? “Easygoing“. And the description perfectly fits my writing: “You write quickly and out of necessity, and don't bother with perfection.“ 🙃
Poms
Let me tell you a secret: there are very few breeds of dogs that I like. And even fewer that I love. And I especially dislike most small breeds. Maybe it’s because if their annoyingly high pitched squeaking. … Come one, no one can tell me that these tones can be counted as barking. A Shepherd barks. A Golden Retriever barks. but not a Chihuahua. Speaking of annoying small dogs (by the way, no offense to owners of small dogs), why not spawn THOUSANDS OF THEM?!?!?!!!??? 🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶
